Lance Corporal Robert S. Greniger, age 21, of Greenfield, was killed in action Tuesday, July 12, 2011, while serving in Afghanistan.
LCPL Greniger was serving with 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, NC. He was deployed to Afghanistan March 20, 2011. LCPL Greniger was a proud Marine and proud to serve his country.
Robert was born April 1, 1990. He enjoyed snowboarding and karate, and played baseball at Rockford High School, as well as being a bat boy for many years for his dad’s Rolling Twins softball team.
He accepted Christ after basic training and was a member of Village Evangelical Free Church.
Robert loved hanging out with his friends.
Survivors include his parents, Teresa and Kurt Greniger; his wife, Ashley Young-Greniger; sisters Khloe and Greta; brother Henry; biological father Tom Kieser; half-sister Trinity; grandmother Pat (Charlie) La Fromboise; and grandfather Ken Kieser.
LCPL Greniger was preceded in death by his grandparents, Patricia and Richard Ryan and Bruce and Darlene Greniger.
Funeral services took place Friday, July 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Rockford Community Center, with interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Visitation for family and friends was Thursday, July 21 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Village Evangelical Free Church in Maple Plain.
