Dennis A. Havemeier, 72

Dennis Arthur Havemeier, age 72, of Cokato, died Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis of a stroke.

He was born June 19, 1938, in New Ulm, to Paul and Mary (Hengy) Havemeier. Dennis was baptized July 28, 1938, in the Havemeier’s home by the Rev. A. J. Maas; and later confirmed.

As a young man, he had various jobs, one of which was trucking, before helping his father on the family farm in Courtland for seven years.

Dennis was united in marriage to Bonnie Lou Guetzkow April 28, 1961, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hollywood, MN.

They lived in Green Isle for 20 years, Waverly for eight years, and finally settled in Cokato for the last 15 years.

Dennis worked for 30 years as a welder for Advance Machines in Plymouth, retiring in 2000.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Annandale and a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Montrose, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Green Isle, and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Courtland.

Dennis was an outdoorsman; enjoying fishing, coon hunting, and keeping an immaculate yard through gardening and landscaping. He also enjoyed building projects; over the years he built everything from a fish house to church benches, and even a three-wheeler.

Dennis was a giving man, always willing to help a neighbor. He enjoyed dancing, loved his family and friends, and truly enjoyed his grandchildren and attending their athletic events.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; two daughters and their spouses, Tammy and Bret Lueders of Dassel, and Connie and Dave Huber of LeSueur; six grandchildren, Tyler, Garret, and Pierce Lueders, Ryan and Amber Sunderman, and Caylee Huber; one great-grandson (his favorite), Carter Sunderman; and a step-grandson, Ben Huber.

Dennis is further survived by four sisters and their spouses, Betty and Harris Buboltz of Hutchinson, Vercille and Dale Class, Burnett and Frank Pearse, all of New Ulm, and Burnell and Eddie Osberg of Courtland; a brother-in-law, Lester Shellum; sisters-in-law Lorna, Imelda, and Margaret Havemeier; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mary Havemeier; brothers Paul Jr., Clarence, Jerome, and Raymond Havemeier; and a sister, Dorothy Shellum.

Funeral services took place Friday, April 22 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Annandale with the Rev. Thomas Queck officiating. Aaron Brown and Kathy Queck provided music for the service. Friends called from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church, preceding the services.

Pallbearers were his grandchildren, Ryan Sunderman, Amber Sunderman, Caylee Huber, Tyler Lueders, Garret Lueders and Pierce Lueders.
