Lucille H. (Kullander) Hedin, age 97, peacefully entered the presence of her Lord and Savior Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, at Lakeside Health Care Center in Dassel.
She was born May 17, 1914, in Collinwood Township, Dassel, to Selma (Hagglund) Kullander and Erick E. Kullander. Lucille was baptized June 9, 1914. and confirmed in 1929. She accepted Christ at age 16 at a special meeting by the Rev. Gust F. Johnson at Mission Church in Dassel.
Lucille graduated from Dassel High School in 1933. After graduation, she was employed at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Litchfield for 10 years.
Lucille married Gust Hedin May 15, 1943, at Dassel Mission Church. They lived in Minneapolis from 1946-1948, and then moved to Menomonie, WI, where her husband was general manager of Wisconsin Co-op Dairies until 1961.
They lived in St. Paul from 1961-1963, where Lucille worked at the Golden Age nursing home; then lived in Nicollet, MN from 1963-1965, and then in Bertha, MN from 1965-1974, where her husband managed the creameries.
Lucille and Gust attended the Wadena Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, where Lucille taught Sunday school. In 1974, they moved to Omaha, NE, where her husband, Gust, worked for Mid-America Dairymen; and she managed the 30-unit Lakeview apartment building, assisted by her husband.
They were members of the Lake Forest Alliance Church in Omaha.
In 1982, they moved back to the old farm place in Dassel (where Lucille was born) and built a new home.
Lucille was an active member of the Dassel Evangelical Covenant Church.
She enjoyed doing plastic canvas needlework, and made many pretty colored baskets, churches, and Christmas card holders. She also enjoyed getting the whole family together at Christmas time for dinner around a long decorated table. Her special joy was her family, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who she loved dearly.
Lucille always said how blessed she was to have such a wonderful family, their spouses and children, who all loved Jesus, and she prayed for them daily. She was a wonderful Christian example to all who knew her.
Her beloved husband, Gust, passed away July 7, 2000. Four children were born to them: Robert, Janet, and twins Sharon and Sheldon.
In addition to her husband, Sheila was preceded in death by her parents; grandson-in-law; daughter-in-law; three great-grandchildren; and three brothers-in-law.
She is survived by her sons, Robert (Jeanne) Hedin, and Sheldon Hedin, all of Dassel; daughters Janet (David) Pritchard of Plymouth, and Shari (Harold) Wheeler of Ottertail; nine grandchildren, Jenni (Keith) Gorney, Kara (Dan) Rosner, Julie (Adam) Bennett, Kristen Pritchard, Becky (Craig) Frank, Tricia Eiswald, Jeff Hedin (and friend Jessie), Kyle Hedin, and Joe Hedin (and fiancée Brandi); 12 great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law Deloris Hedin, Dorothy Hedin ,and Esther Matheny.
The funeral service took place Friday, Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. at Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel.
Visitation was Thursday, Sept. 22 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel, and continued Friday for one hour prior to the service.
Arrangements were by the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel.
