Rachel I. (York) Heding, age 93, of Watertown, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, at the Elim Home in Watertown.
She was born Dec. 1, 1917, in Westbrook, MN, the daughter of Roy E. and Edith M. (Banks) York.
Rachel was united in marriage with Earl G. Heding Aug. 24, 1946, at the Methodist Church of Lake Wilson.
Rachel was a school teacher, and taught in many communities during her career.
She was a faithful member of the Watertown Free Church, where she enjoyed attending many Bible studies.
Her hobbies included gardening, reading, and crocheting, and she cherished her time spent with her grandchildren.
Rachel was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Edith York; sisters and brothers, Ruth Potter, Gladys Dahms, Eunice Anderson, Rex York, Don York, Jay York, and an infant brother, Lee York.
She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Earl Heding of Watertown; children Karen Heding of Buffalo, Richard (Mary) Heding of Elk River, and Mark (Nancy) Heding of Watertown; grandchildren Jackie King, Katie Heding, Kara and Shawn Larson, Krista Heding, and Charity Heding; great-granddaughter Allyson King; sister-in-law Marjorie York of Peblo, CO; as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
A memorial service took place Saturday, Nov. 5 at 11 a.m. at Watertown Evangelical Free Church in Watertown with the Rev. Paul Kling officiating. There was a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment was in the Watertown Community Cemetery.
