Marjorie E. Hill, age 90, of Waconia, died Tuesday May 17, 2011, at the Light House in Waconia.
She was born July 6, 1920, in Waconia, the daughter of Edward and Alma (Splettstoezer) Schwalbe. Marjorie was baptized Aug. 1, 1920, at Zoar Moravian Church in Waconia Township by the Rev. H. Kant, and confirmed March 25, 1934, at the Waconia Moravian Church by Pastor Swalely.
Marjorie was united in marriage to Martin P. Hill May 16, 1939, at home in Waconia by the Rev. Richard Mewaldt.
Marjorie worked alongside her husband, Martin, on the farm, and they both shared a deep passion for farming. She was a wonderful baker, especially breads and pies.
Marjorie loved her Jesus, her family, and music. She taught Sunday school while a member at St. Paul’s in Watertown, and is still remembered very fondly by many of her students. She played piano by ear, and her family has many fond memories of all the Gospel songs she would sing and play.
Marjorie was a member of the Norwood Young America Tonettes, she volunteered at Ridgeview Medical Center, and Waconia Good Samaritan Center, and would help out family and friends whenever it was needed.
Even when her memory left her, her love for her husband and his memory never failed. She loved her children unconditionally and they will miss her.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Hill; parents Edward and Alma Schwalbe; brothers Edward Schwalbe, Kermit Schwalbe, and Marlin Sicheneder; sisters and brothers-in-law Sylvia and Ed Johnson, Jeanette and Arthur Emick, and Mildred Smith; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Louis Hill, Frederich Hill, Auguste Hill, Philip Hill, and Margarethe Hill.
She is survived by her loving family; daughters and son-in-law Margie Hill of Waconia, and Connie and James Schmidt of Watertown; sons and daughters-in-law David and Jeanette Hill of Long Lake, and John and Brenda Hill of Chanhassen; grandchildren Kenneth Hill and Paula Pedersen, Jonathan Hill, Rachael Hill and Steve O’Brien, Sarah and Rathe McLean, Kreg and Deanne Schmidt, Kelly Dieltz and David Speake, Kristie and Curt Serbus, Kory Schmidt and Andrea Weingartz; and great-grandchildren Hannah, Griffin, Aaron and Ariel, Kaley, Nicole, Timothy, Kaytlynn, Anna, Ethan, and Connor.
Marjorie is further survived by brothers and sisters-in-law Vernon and Darlene Schwalbe of Mound, and Lowell Schwalbe and Merilyn Conery of Sun City West, AZ; sister Dorothy Light of Watertown; brothers and sisters-in-law Ray and Beatrice Sicheneder of St. Bonifacius, Ann Schwalbe of St. Paul, Josephine Sicheneder of Mound, Glenna Hill of Seattle, WA; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services took place Friday, May 20 at 1 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia with the Rev. Dave Larson officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Visitation was Thursday, May 19 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia, and continued Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Casket bearers were Kreg Schmidt, Kory Schmidt, Jonathan Hill, Kenneth Hill, Rathe McLean, and Curtis Serbus.
