Elaine E. (Salmela) Horan, age 82, of Brenham, TX, formerly of Cokato, died Friday, March 4, 2011, at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan, TX.
She was born Jan. 16, 1929, in Cokato, to Edward A. and Eva Marie (Kokko) Salmela.
Elaine graduated from Cokato High School, and earned her registered nursing degree in 1976, after attending St. Mary’s College of Nursing in Minneapolis.
Elaine was thought of very highly by the inmates she and her husband, Johnny, ministered to in their many years together in the prison ministry.
She is survived by her husband, Johnny Horan of Brenham, TX; son Edward Manthei of Minnetonka; daughter and son-in-law Sandy Matyi and husband, John of El Paso, TX; sister Helen Mattilla of Annandale; grandson John Leighton Matyi and wife Stephanie, and great-granddaughter Rylie Matyi, all of Las Cruces, NM; grandson Mark Matyi of El Paso, TX; step-daughters Vickie Burnett, Lisa Ginapp, Eva Adler, Lisa Short, and Tina Herrera; sons-in-laws; and numerous loving nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; a brother; and three sisters.
Memorial services took place Saturday, March 26 at 11 a.m. at Grace Community Fellowship Church in Brenham, TX with Pastor Mike Rod officiating.
