John Philip Isakson, age 61, of Dassel, died Monday, Aug. 8, 2011, at the Lakeside Healthcare Center of Dassel.
He was born July 12, 1950, in Litchfield, the son of Marlow and Joyce (Danielson) Isakson.John grew up in the Dassel area, and was baptized and confirmed at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel.
He was most recently a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel.
John was united in marriage to Wendy Boreen July 16, 1971, at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel by the Rev. Wallace Pratt. Together they made their home in Dassel, where they raised their son, Jess.
John was very talented in whatever he set his mind to do. He did apprenticeship at Win-Stephens Buick in Minneapolis, where he perfected his auto body repair skills. He owned and operated his own auto body repair shop for many years. He had also worked in high rise construction, working on the IDS building, the Mall of America, and numerous other buildings in the Minneapolis-St.Paul area.
John also had worked with Bob Boreen, his father-in-law, on home construction. For the past several years, he owned and operated a construction dump truck.
He loved to spend time with his family, and enjoyed working on cars, repairing them and making sure that they ran like new. His auto repair skills made it possible for him to build his dream car, a 1930 Ford coupe street rod.
John enjoyed the outdoors, and riding motorcycles, snowmobiles and four-wheelers. He will deeply be missed by his family and his friends.
John is survived by his wife, Wendy, of Dassel; son Jess of Dassel; mother Joyce Isakson of Dassel; siblings Gary (Byrnina) Isakson of Dassel, Kathy (Steve) Tupa of Dassel, David (Kathy) Isakson of Litchfield, and Rob (Kris) Isakson of St. Cloud; aunts; uncles; nieces and nephews; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marlow Isakson.
A memorial service took place Saturday, Aug. 13 at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel with the Rev. Keith Carlson officiating. Special music was provided by Sheldon Hedin and Harvey Peterson.
There was a time to gather with family one hour prior to the service at the church.
Honorary bearers were Craig Smith, Ben Tieman, Gary Ahlgren, Jay Loffler, and Ron Rauschendorfer.
Memorial arrangements were handled by the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel.
