Daniel ‘Snag’ J. Jost, 59

Daniel Joseph Jost, age 59, of Maple Lake, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, March 27, 2011, secure in the knowledge that he was deeply loved.  He fought a short, but courageous battle with glioblastoma brain cancer.

Dan was born March 10, 1952, in St. Cloud, to Phil and LaVerne (Schreifels) Jost.  He graduated from Maple Lake High School in 1970.

Dan was united in marriage to Wendy Westphal July 19, 1980, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Howard Lake.  Dan and Wendy shared their 30 years together farming in Albion Township, moving up and down Hoyt Avenue until they purchased the Jost Family Farm in 1992.

Dan was also a backhoe operator and a member of IUOE Local 49.

Dan’s most cherished treasures were his many close friends and his love of the land.  He enjoyed playing cards, hunting, fishing and spending time with friends.

Dan loved to tell stories and had a contagious laugh; he knew how to make people feel special.  He will be remembered for his selfless giving; if someone was in need, he was there to help.

Dan will be deeply missed by his loving and devoted wife Wendy; sisters and brother, Renee (Jim) Logeais of Annandale, Mary (Garrit) Memelink of Hastings, Ken (Sue) Jost of Maple Lake, Judy (Doug) Pederson of New London, JoAnn Pederson (Ted  Maikkula) of Maple Lake, Brenda (Kevin) Raiche of Buffalo, and Terri (Fred) Gunderson of Annandale; father-in-law Roger “Butch” Westphal of Maple Lake; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Wayne (Joy) Westphal of Vadnais Heights, Wanda (Mike) Gagnon of Waverly, and Wyatt Westphal of Vadnais Heights; many beloved nieces and nephews; many, many friends; and his loyal companions Betsy, Ernie, and Timmy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Phil and LaVerne; a brother, Phil Jr.; and his mother-in-law, Lois Westphal.

A Celebration of Life will take place Friday, April 1 at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Maple Lake with the Rev. Peter J. Martinson officiating.  Interment was at Bethlehem United Church of Christ Cemetery, south of Maple Lake. Friends called Thursday, March 31 from 4-8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.; at Holy Cross Lutheran Church; and continued Friday one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
