Joyce Marie Esther (Schumann) Knoll, age 69, of rural Cokato, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, at her home.
She was born Jan. 13, 1941, in Waverly, the daughter of Awalt and Lyle (Dermo) Schumann. Joyce was baptized June 15, 1941, by the Rev. Eugene Seltz at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake; and confirmed in her faith April 3, 1955, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Winsted by Rev. Vonhoff.
Joyce was married to Richard Knoll Dec. 29, 1956, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Winsted by Rev. Schroeder. This union was blessed with three daughters.
Joyce enjoyed gardening, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Awalt and Lyle Schumann; husband Richard; sister Linda Schumann; brothers-in-law Hilton Oltmann and Norman Vorbeck; and nieces Wanda Oltmann and Donna Hogan.
Joyce is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Duane) Berglund, Jeanette Benson and special friend Tom Herzog, all of Hutchinson, and Alice (Dennis) Lieder of New Ulm; sisters Alvina Vorbeck of McGregor, Gusie Oltmann of Sauk Centre, and Liz (Rome) Bowman of Spokane, WA; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and a host of relatives and friends.
A celebration of her life took place Saturday, Jan. 15 at 1 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake with the Revs. Michael Nirva and Martin Schoenfeld officiating. Nancy Butterfass served as the organist. Interment will be at a later date at the St. James Cemetery on Dutch Lake.
Honorary pallbearers were Christina Benson, Jacob Benson, Jesse Benson, Julie Benson, Melissa Wacker, Mary Lou Berglund, Jeremy Lieder, and Mathew Lieder.
Arrangements were by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home, Cokato and Howard Lake.
