Owen Edward (Eddie) Konchal, age 99, of California, formerly of Howard Lake, died Saturday, June 11, 2011.
He was born Aug. 30, 1911, in Alexander, ND. He then lived in Howard Lake, where he worked at the family newspaper, the Howard Lake Herald, for many years.
Owen joined the US Navy in 1943, during WWII, and served aboard a destroyer in the Pacific until 1945.
He moved to California in 1953. There, he worked at Folsom Telegraph and Carmichael Courier as a printer until 1957, when he and his wife moved to Galt, CA and he was employed by The Galt Herald. After 15 years at the Herald, he retired in 1972.
When his wife, Dorothy, passed away in 1998, Owen met many caring friends at the Senior Citizens Center in Galt. He also enjoyed his neighbors and friends at Galt Mobile Estates.
Funeral services took place Thursday, June 16 at 10 a.m. at Ben Salas Funeral Home in California, followed by interment in the Howard Lake Cemetery.
