Arla Mae Kubasch, age 69, of New Germany, died Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at the Birchwood Hospice House in Hutchinson.
The funeral service will be Monday April 18 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hollywood Township, New Germany, with the Rev. Robert Rupprecht officiating. Interment will be at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation was Sunday, April 17 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia, with a chapel service at 7:30 p.m.; and will continue Monday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Casket bearers will be Nick Kubasch, Chad Kubasch, Brad Johnson, Danny Thiesse, Jimmy Willard, and Kent Kussalker. Honorary casket bearers are Sawyer and Jordyn Kubasch.

Arla was born June 19, 1941, in Fairmont, the daughter of Clarence and Margaret (Day) Willard. She was baptized July 13, 1941, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fairmont by the Rev. O.H. Zemke; and confirmed April 3, 1955, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Hollywood Twp., by the Rev. Robert Heyne.
Arla was united in marriage to James Kubasch Feb. 27, 1960, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Hollywood Twp., by the Rev. AmEnd. Arla and Jim recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, which was a joyous day for her.
Arla loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who were very special to her. She enjoyed going camping on the weekends, loved to go trap shooting, and enjoyed playing cards, in particular SKIPBO and poker. Watching the WWE Monday nights was a weekly event, western movies always had a place in her heart, and knitting and crocheting for her children and grandchildren brought her a lot of happiness.
At one point in her life, Arla cooked at St. John’s School in Hollywood. She volunteered, helping people out when they were about to go through an organ transplant, which gave them great comfort.
She also loved her dog, Foxy, very much.
Arla was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence “Pete” and Margaret (Day) Willard; sister and brother-in-law Shirley and Velmer Thiesse; and father-in-law Ed Kubasch.
She is survived by her loving family: husband Jim; sons and daughters-in-law Gary and Lori Kubasch of New Germany, Travis and Lisa Kubasch of Lester Prairie, and Jason and Marlene Kubasch of Kandiyohi; grandchildren Nick Kubasch, Chad Kubasch, Sawyer Kubasch, and Jordyn Kubasch; brothers and sisters-in-law Jim and Audrey Willard of Monticello, and Dennis and Belva Willard of Brainerd; mother-in-law Erma Kubasch of Hutchinson; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Rollin and Carol Kubasch of Hutchinson, and Gail Bakeberg and special friend Scott of Maple Lake; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
