William ‘Bill’ Lacey Obituary – 11/2/2011


William “Bill” Lacey, age 81, of Dassel, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, surrounded by his loving family.

Bill was born Sept. 6, 1930, in Burlington, WI, to William and Marie Lacey. He was baptized Feb. 22, 1931, at Zion Lutheran Church; raised in Clear Lake, IA, and was confirmed April 2, 1944, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Garner, IA.

Bill served overseas in Germany after joining the US Army in 1950.

Upon returning, he was married to Betty Ann Hoppel March 6, 1955, in Belmond, IA. This union was blessed with three children.

Bill was honored with the Outstanding Jaycee Award and the Distinguished Service Award by the Belmond Junior Chamber of Commerce.

He loved the outdoors, and conversed with the trees, and rocks.

Bill loved to travel, especially to Alaska. After retirement, to avoid the cold and snow of Minnesota, he spent winters in Rockport, TX.

Bill was a people person and exemplified this through his work as an accountant and owner of Cokato Accounting.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; three children, Pam (Lance) Garrison, Robert Lacey, and Cheryl (Ned) Herrick; six grandchildren, Angela and Steven Garrison, Grant Lacey, Amanda (Bob) Miller, and Dave and Ashley Herrick; two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Jackson Miller; five sisters; two brothers; and other family and friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister.

The funeral service took place Saturday, Nov. 5 at North Crow River Lutheran Church in Cokato. Interment was Sunday, Nov. 6 at the Christ Lutheran Cemetery in Maple Plain.
