Alice J. M. Lenz, 86

Alice J. M. Lenz, age 86, of Mayer, died Friday Sept. 9, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waconia.

She was born Dec. 8, 1924, in Winsted Township, McLeod County, the daughter of Rhinehold and Lillie (Lueck) Schmidt. Alice was baptized Dec. 21, 1924, at her parents’ home by the Rev. Arthur Spleiss; and confirmed May 7, 1939, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hollywood Township, New Germany by the Rev. W.L. Ernst.

Alice was united in marriage to Russell S. Lenz April 3, 1948, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Hollywood Twp., New Germany, by Rev. Ernst.

Alice worked at many places throughout her lifetime, being a cook at the Mayer Public School and at Zion Lutheran School in Mayer, where she enjoyed helping out with the children. She also worked at UMCO Tackle Box in Watertown, and Evergreen Coupon Clearing.

Alice always knew what she had in every drawer in her dresser. She enjoyed many pastimes, including listening and dancing to old tyme music, playing the 500 card game, and watching the Minnesota Twins.

She was a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, holding many positions through the years.

Alice will always be known for making her lime jello and pasticcio salad.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell; parents Rhinehold and Lillie Schmidt; son-in-law Dennis Loehrs; brothers and sister-in-law Ralph and Murella Schmidt, Alvin Schmidt, and Orland Schmidt; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Melroy Mielke, Stanford Lenz, and Audrey and Clarence Schultz; nieces Eunice Schmidt and Marjorie Peter; and nephews Robert Lenz, Rodney Schultz, and Ross Schultz.

The funeral service took place Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer with the Rev. Lucas Woodford officiating. Visitation began at 9 a.m. at the church, and continued until the time of the service. Interment was in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Alice is survived by her loving family: daughter Suzanne Loehrs of Watertown; sister LaVerna Mielke of Waconia; sisters-in-law Glenna Schmidt of Mayer, Gladys Schmidt of New Germany, and Myrtle Lenz of Mayer; special friend Raymond Mrkvicka of Hutchinson; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Casket bearers were Randy Schmidt, Terry Schmidt, James Schmidt, Duane Mielke, Douglas Lenz, and Peter Lenz.
