Alice Jean Lucas, age 74, of Washington, formerly of Delano, died Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at the Lyndon Grove Hospice Health Care Center in Puyallup, WA.
She was born Feb. 7, 1937, on the family farm in Franklin Township, Wright County, near Delano, to parents William and Mary (Czech) Motzko. Alice was the 12th of 14 children, and the youngest of seven daughters.
After World War II, the family moved to Benson, where Alice’s father bought the Viking Café and the Benson Diner in 1945.
Alice is survived by her husband, Leon; a son, Dr. Jeffery Lee (Heidi); a grandson, Jordan; a granddaughter, Hannah; sisters Viola Corneliusen of Benson, Caroline Gulbranson of Grand Rapids, Velma Amundson of Sauk Rapids, and Darlene Grant of Seattle, WA; brothers Dennis (Delores) Motzko of Burnsville, Edward (Betty) Motzko of Fort Collins, CO, and Jerome (Jean) Motzko of Benson; 36 nieces and nephews; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother in June of 1979; her father in February of 1982; two sisters, Lillian Gulbranson and Eleanore Lee; and four brothers, Leonard, Wilfred, Richard, and Carmen Motzko.
The funeral service took place Friday, Oct. 21 in Shoreline, WA.
Arrangements were handled by the Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson.
