Esther D. Lulf, age 101, of West Concord, MN, died Thursday, June 9, 2011, at the United Hospital in St. Paul.
She was born Dec. 1, 1909, in Dodge County, the daughter of Windsor and Amelia (Steele) Sparrow.
Esther attended school in Union Springs, and graduated from Byron High School.
She married Robert Brown July 16, 1927, in Rochester, and they made their home in West Concord, in Dodge County.
Esther worked at Rochester Dairy until the birth of their first child, Richard, in 1930. She then stayed home and raised their six sons and one daughter. She also baby sat and raised a nephew, and cared for her father for four-and-one-half years in their home.
In 1958, the family moved to Winsted; and in 1963, they made their home in Howard Lake.
Robert died in 1969.
In 1974, Esther married Harry “Curly” Lulf and they moved back to West Concord. Harry died in 1982.
Esther resided in West Concord until 2009. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and American Legion Auxiliary.
Esther enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting, and gardening.
She is survived by five sons, Eugene (and Elfe) Brown of Garrison, Donald Brown of Oronoco, James Brown of Wyoming, Gerald (and Robin) Brown of Maple Grove, and Rolland (and Debbie) Brown of Burnsville; six stepchildren, Larry (and Joan) Lulf of Lakeville, Carolyn McDaniel of Roseville, Janet Tate of Campbell, CA, Dan (and Linda) Lulf of West Concord, Boni (and Bob) Moon of Byron, and Wanda Jensen of Columbia Falls, MT; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Richard “Dick” Brown; a daughter, Beverly “Sally” Ronning; two granddaughters, Vicky Warnecki and Jill Ackerman; a grandson, Ronald Erler; brothers Rudy, Bill, Roy, Howard, and Charles Sparrow; and a sister, Ann Scheffer.
Funeral services took place Tuesday, June 14 at 10:30 a.m. at United Methodist Church in West Concord, with the Rev. David Westlake officiating. Interment was in the Concord Cemetery in Concord Township.
Arrangements were by the Michaelson Funeral Home in West Concord.
