Harold O. Matsen Obituary – 12/1/2011


Harold Oswald Matsen, age 93, of Annandale, died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, at Lake Ridge Care Center, Buffalo.

He was born Feb. 5, 1918, at Graceton to Walter and Anna (Nicka) Matsen.

Harold married Lillian Kotila May 7, 1938, in Cokato, and she preceded him in death Feb. 9, 1996.

Harold was an equipment operator for the Minneapolis Park Board for 32 years, and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Ginny and Dennis Iverson of Delano, Kathy and Bruce Rettke of Champlin, and John and Mary Matsen of New Hope; brother Kenneth (Barb) Lantto of Edina; sisters Viola Frederick, Rachel Walberg, both of Annandale, and Betty Jane (Clinton) Lambert of Buffalo; eight grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Lillian, Harold was preceded in death by nine brothers, and four sisters.

Funeral services took place Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 11:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Annandale, with visitation for one hour prior to the funeral services. The Rev. Dave Nelson officiated, and burial was at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Crystal.

The pallbearers were Steve Fellrath, Becky Corson, Denise Broughton, Jason Rettke, Megan Matsen, Michael Matsen, Dan Iverson, Dave Iverson, and Tony Broughton.
