Raymond Albert Mattson, age 79, a lifelong resident of Cokato and Stockholm Township, passed away peacefully Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at the St. Cloud VA Hospital, where he had been a resident for several years.
Raymond was born June 17, 1931.
He served his country in the US Army, stationed in Japan.
Ray farmed for many years in Stockholm, until his health forced him to retire. Subsequent to that he also held positions with various businesses including Bongard’s Creamery in Norwood Young America, AMPI in Howard Lake, and H & R Block and various other positions in Hutchinson.
Ray was an accomplished skate dancer and won many trophies for his skill on roller skates. He also enjoyed reading, playing whist, and gardening; and he and his sons were avid fishermen in the summer.
In later years, Ray enjoyed stopping by the library to join other seniors in card games.
A member of the Stockholm Lutheran Church, Ray served on the church council during Pastor Burton’s tenure.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marianne (Stenberg) Mattson of Cokato; three sons, Lance of Eau Claire, WI, Owen of Brooklyn Center, and Elliot of Cokato; and grandchildren Autumn, Austin, and Hunter.
Ray was interred at Fort Snelling National Cemetery Thursday, Feb. 17 at 1 p.m.
