Ella A. Menth, age 81, of Watertown, died Thursday, July 14, 2011, at the Elim Home in Watertown.
She was born Dec. 2, 1929, in Hollywood Township, the daughter of George and Helena (Seefeldt) Richter. Ella was baptized Dec. 15, 1929, at her home by the Rev. W.L. Ernst; and confirmed April 2, 1944, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hollywood Twp. by the Rev. W.L. Ernst.
Ella was united in marriage to Curtis D. Menth Aug. 12, 1950, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany by the Rev. Martin Rische.
Ella was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed both vegetable and flower gardening, and made the most awesome apple pie and canned the best pickles.
She was a member of the American Legion Post 601 Auxiliary in New Germany for over 50 years.
Ella was preceded in death by her son, Michael Menth; father and mother, George and Helena Richter; brother Oscar Richter; sister and brother-in-law Stella and Don Ostlie; and father-in-law and mother-in-law Lloyd and Erna Menth.
Ella is survived by her loving family: husband Curtis; son Kent Gerdeman of Rogers; daughters and sons-in-law Rhonda and Steve Schelitzche of Pine River, and Shelly and Dale Ketcher of Watertown; daughter-in-law Kay Menth of St. Paul; grandchildren James Ketcher, Jason and Annie Ketcher, Jeremy Ketcher, Kris and Betsy Menth, Nick Menth, and Miranda Menth; and great-grandchildren Josh, Cole, Zach and soon to be, a fourth great-grandchild.
She is further survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law LaMoyne and Dennis Wolter of Excelsior, and Bill and Toni Menth of St. Bonifacius; nieces; nephews; cousins; and other relatives and friends.
The funeral service took place Sunday, July 17 at 2 p.m at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Watertown with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. The Rev. Robert Alsleben officiated, and interment followed at Watertown Community Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Jeremy Ketcher, Jason Ketcher, Nick Menth, Kris Menth, Miranda Menth, and Betsy Menth.
