Shirley Frank Merges, age 79, of Winsted, died Saturday morning, July 9, 2011, at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.
A memorial service will take place Friday, July 22 at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, with visitation from 4 to 8 p.m.

Frank was born Aug. 18, 1931, in Otsego, to Andrew P. Merges and Lucille Barthel Merges.
He attended school in Albertville, and served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
Frank married Mary Martz Sept. 5, 1953, in Waco, TX. They moved to Albertville, MN and had 12 children.
Frank farmed until 1974, when they moved to Winsted. He drove a truck until 1991, when he retired, and then drove part time until 2002.
Frank loved truck driving, springer spaniel dogs, jigsaw puzzles, tractors, and farming.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Duane Merges and Andrew Merges.
Frank is survived by his wife, Mary, of Winsted; children Sue Anderson (Dave) of Ramsey, Alice Munter (Everett) of Elk River, Debbie Wray (Arden) of Albertville, Sharon Merges (Roger) of Zimmerman, Paul Merges, Jeffrey Merges, both of Winsted, Alayne Gehlen (Dave) of White Bear Lake, Adam Merges (Sherri) of Alaska, John Merges (Sue) of Eden Valley, Anne Wood (Rick) of Mahtomedi; brothers Loren Merges, and Andrew “Pete” (Renee), all of Albertville; brother-in-law Edward Martz of Berlin, PA; 28 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
