Selma “Sally” Nelson, age 92, of Dassel, died Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at the Lakeside Health Care Center in Dassel.
Sally was born Aug. 14, 1918, in Litchfield, the daughter of John and Wilhelmina (Jordin) Allen. She grew up in rural Litchfield, attended country school, and later graduated from the Litchfield High School.
Sally was united in marriage to John “Jack” Nelson Sept. 5, 1949, in St. Paul. The couple made their home in the Dassel area, where they farmed.
Sally loved to spend time with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, gardening, canning, and baking.
Sally will be deeply missed by her family and her friends.
She was a faithful member of the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel at the time of her death, where she had been active in the church ladies organization.
Sally is survived by her children, Eugene (Karen) Anderson of Litchfield, and Bonnie (Mel) Allrich of Dassel; seven grandchildren, Richard Anderson, Katrina Lustfield, Janeen Radman, Eric Thomas, Susan Anderson, Michelle Rehers, and Kelly Homan; seven great- grandchildren; and siblings Archie (Bernice) Allen of Hannibal, MO, Andy (Ruth) Allen of Grove City, Werner (Doris) Allen of St. Cloud, and Fern Holt of Cokato.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; a daughter, Darlene Scofield; a grandson, Scott Anderson; her parents; and six brothers, Ray, Arnie, Harold, Lloyd, Herb, and Willard.
The funeral service took place Sunday, March 6 at 2:30 p.m. at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel with visitation for one hour prior to the service. The Revs. Steven Olson and John Peterson officiated. Interment followed at the Dassel Community Cemetery.
The Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel handled the arrangements.
