Betty Mae Nelson, age 79, of Dawson, entered her heavenly home Sunday, March 20, 2011, at the Johnson Memorial Nursing Home in Dawson.
She was born May 4, 1931, in Sacred Heart, to Nels and Nelsine (Jorgenson) Rasmussen. Betty was baptized Sept. 27, 1931, at First Lutheran Church in Maynard, and confirmed in her faith May 7, 1951.
She graduated from Maynard High School May 27, 1949.
Betty was united in marriage to Duane Darwin Dahl Sept. 10, 1950, and together they had six children: Doug, DeLayne, Tom, Vicki, Bonnie, and Bruce.
On April 26, 1968, Betty was united in marriage to W. Tillman Nelson and together they had two children: Julie and Tim.
Betty worked for the Rural Electric in Montevideo, and Hauck’s Department Store in Madison. She also volunteered her time at the Bellingham Public School, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Louisburg Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the board, served on the Ladies’ Aid, and was a member of the choir.
Betty also enjoyed going estate shopping with her sisters, dancing, watching sports of all kinds, but especially the Twins; going to the lake cabin, knitting, crocheting, and going for coffee with her friends in Bellingham.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Nels and Nelsine Rasmussen; her husbands, Duane Dahl, and W. Tillman Nelson; brothers Oscar Rasmussen, Ray Rasmussen, and Ted Rassmusen; and sisters Norma Schulke and Fran Cruit.
She is survived by her children: Doug and Kathy Dahl of Watertown, SD, DeLayne Dahl of Dawson, Tom and Gwen Dahl of Hutchinson, Vicki Lee and Len Lasley of Hutchinson, Bonnie Dahl-Gasper of Silver Lake, Bruce and Lori Dahl of Winsted, Julie Nelson of Littleton, CO, and Tim Nelson of Denver, CO; sisters Jan and Duane Marholtz, and Mabel Fundingsland; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service took place Wednesday, March 23 at the Louisburg Lutheran Church, in Louisburg, MN with the Rev. Kirk Meseck officiating. Interment was in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Bellingham, MN.
Arrangements were with the Zahrbock Funeral Home in Madison.
