Victor E. Niska Obituary – 8/25/2011


Victor Edward Niska, age 65, of Coon Rapids, died Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011.

He was born April 27, 1946, in Elk River, the child of Melvin and Linda Niska.

Victor was joined in marriage to Pamela Ann Stewart Sept. 4, 1965. Their marriage was blessed with 10 children: Quinton, Sam, Aaron, Nathan, Vermont, Nils, Christina, Suzanna, Laura and Rebecca.

Victor was preceded in death by his father and mother, Melvin and Linda Niska; sisters Evelyn Wilen and Marian Halberg; a brother, Charles Niska; father-in-law Robert Stewart; brother-in-law Byron Stewart; and sister-in-law Candice Stewart.

He is survived by his children: Quinton (Michelle) Niska of Burnsville, Samuel (Shelley) Niska of Chanhassen, Aaron (Kimberly) Niska of Waverly, Nathan Niska, Vermont (Jennifer) Niska, all of Battle Ground, WA; Nils (Holly) Niska of Hutchinson, Christina Niska of Battle Ground, WA, Suzanna (Martin) Tilford of Vancouver, WA, Laura (Mike) Isaacson of Kelso, WA, and Rebecca Niska of Tacoma, WA; the children’s mother, Pamela Niska of Battle Ground, WA; and grandchildren Ashley, William, Taylor, Alexis, Hannah, Justin, Jaiden, Andrew, Timothy, Brennan, Karsen, and Payton.

Victor is further survived by his siblings, Melvin Jr. (Ester) Niska, Annette (David) Carlson, Elsie (Dennis) Muonio, Lila (Wayne) Schmidt, Edith (Edward) Maki, Junetta (Gary) Johnson, Leonard (Selina) Niska, Lois Niska, and Eunice (John) Burns; sister-in-law Eleanor Niska; brother-in-law Arthur Halberg; uncle Sivert Hendrickson; aunts Nina Lobbestael, Estella Hendrickson, Laila Cichosz, Carol Jean Hendrickson, and Anna Mae (Tom) Koski; mother-in-law Gloria Stewart; many brothers and sisters-in-law; and many cousins, relatives, friends and acquaintances.

The funeral service took place Saturday, Sept. 3 at 10 a.m., followed by a graveside service at the Delano Cemetery.

Visitation was Friday, Sept. 2 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Iten Funeral Home in Delano, and continued Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.

Victor’s six sons were his pallbearers, Quinton Edward, Samuel Victor, Aaron Arthur, Nathan Robert, Vermont Allen, and Nils Stephen.

Arrangements were by Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
