Wallace O. Nygaard Obituary – 11/29/2011

Wallace Odin Nygaard, age 65, of Cokato, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011.

He was born July 6, 1946, in Colfax, WI, to Odin and Lucille Nygaard, the fourth of five children: Merlin, Kenneth, Joyce, Wallace, and Jane.

Wally moved to Minnesota in 1958, and attended Cokato High School.

He was united in marriage to Carolyn Schultz March 21, 1970. Wally and Carolyn had three children: Eric, Kimberly, and Tammy.

A devoted, earnest, hard-working man, Wally was employed by Sterner Lighting in Winsted for 16 years, then at Marksmans Metal Co., Inc. for three years.

He loved to spend time with his family by going for walks with his wife, barbecuing, taking the grandchildren to the park, helping his brother, Merlin, on his farm; picking blackberries in Wisconsin, and traveling to visit his brother, Ken and his family.

He truly enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, shooting pool, and spoiling his dogs. Many will miss his funny sense of humor, and his grandchildren will especially miss their grandpa’s jokes and one-liners.

Wally is survived by his wife, Carolyn; son Eric and his wife, Theresa; daughter Kimberly and her husband, Justin Grob; daughter Tammy; granddaughters Cassandra and Breah; grandsons Eithian, Bricen, Preston, Logan, Brennen, Seth, and Carson; brothers Merlin, and Kenneth; and a sister, Jane.

Wallace was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce; and both parents, Odin and Lucille.

A memorial service took place Saturday, Dec. 3 at 2 p.m. at North Crow River Lutheran Church, north of Cokato, with visitation beginning at noon at the church. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Arrangements were by Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Cokato.
