Duane “Duey” Walter Oelrich, age 64, of Pahrump, NV, formerly of Cokato, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011.
A celebration of his life will take place Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the Hamel Community Building, located at 3200 Mill Drive in Hamel (located directly behind the Farmers State Bank of Hamel, off of Hamel Rd.). There will be visitation with family before the service, and a luncheon will follow the service.
Duey was born Oct. 7, 1947, in St. Cloud. He lived many places with his family, until settling in Cokato in 1965.
After graduation from Cokato High School in 1966, Duey went into the Air Force, where he served his country for four years.
He then attended St. Cloud University for many years while pursuing his love of golfing. He also worked at the St. Cloud Country Club as the head pro for a time.
Duane moved to Nevada in 1988, where he would be able to golf most of the year. He worked more than 20 years in the gaming industry at a variety of Las Vegas casinos.
Duey had recently retired due to illness, which he fought with a positive and upbeat attitude.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard W. and Margaret J. Oelrich; sisters Carmen C. Hill and Barbara A. Kliewer; and brother-in-law Lt. Col. Gregory A. Rengel.
Duane is survived by brothers Richard J. Oelrich (Arlene), and James R. Oelrich (Jeanne); sisters Rosanne Rengel, Maggie Warno (Steve), Susan Estes (Bruce), and Julie Homberger (Mike); brothers-in-law Paul Kliewer and Aarne Hill; 13 nieces and nephews; 24 great nieces and nephews; two great, great nieces and nephews; and longtime companion Alice (Pat) Cavenaugh. Duane is also survived by his dog, “Booger,” who was the love of his life.
