Daniel C. Opperman, age 81 of Waconia passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at the Marie Steiner Kelting Hospice Home in Chaska.
Funeral service was Saturday June 4, 2011 at 3 p.m. at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Bongards with the Rev. Richard Mark officiating.
Visitation was one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment St. John’s UCC Cemetery, Bongards.
Daniel was born Feb. 18, 1930 in Sheboygan, WI, the son of Edward and Lydia (Boedeker) Opperman. Daniel was baptized in Sheboygan and confirmed at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Bongards.
On Aug. 12, 1957, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Schlegelmilch in Reno, Nevada.
Daniel was very active in the community, serving as president of the Waconia Lions Club and served on the Red Cross Board in Carver County. He served in the US Navy for 20 years, which was an important part of his life. For the next 20 years Daniel worked at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
After retirement Dan and Marilyn spent their winters in Orlando, Florida, which Daniel loved. He liked to play cards and could fix anything that needed repair.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Lydia Opperman; sister Helen Baaske, Bernice Johnson; brother Ralph Opperman.
Daniel is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn; sisters Esther Kolowith of Milwaukee, WI, Miriam Grauman of Sheboygan, WI, sister-in-law Joan Schlegelmilch of Chaska; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
