Mary Jane Lydia Parr, age 76, of Dassel, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011, at Lakeside Health Care Center in Dassel.
She was born Jan. 6, 1935, in Austin, the daughter of Omer and Ann (Lehrke) Justinger. Mary Jane was baptized as an infant in Austin, and was later confirmed in the Missouri Synod Lutheran faith, March 21, 1948, in La Crosse, WI.
Mary Jane received her education in Duluth, and was a graduate of Duluth Central High School class of 1952. She furthered her education by attending Concordia College in St. Paul, and received a teaching degree.
Mary Jane was united in marriage to Gerald Meske in October of 1956, in Duluth, by the Rev. Samuel Meske. This marriage was blessed with two sons, Justin and Jan.
In April of 1971, Mary Jane was united in marriage to Jack Parr in Idaho.
After Mary Jane finished college, she taught school in Mayville, WI. She moved back to Duluth and held employment at Noepheming Nursing Home from 1972-1974, and Champion Children’s Home from 1974-1976.
In 1976, Mary Jane furthered her education by attending Duluth Technical Institute and received a LPN degree. She then held employment at Park Point Nursing Manor in Duluth from 1976-1978.
In 1979, she moved to Dassel. Since then, she worked at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted, Burns Manor in Hutchinson, and Meeker County Community Health Services for 10 years.
Mary Jane was a member at Stockholm Lutheran Church in Cokato. She was very supportive of many Christian organizations.
A very independent woman, Mary Jane enjoyed gardening, cooking, fixing up her home, and doing yard work. She loved donating to charities, and cherished the time spent with her family and friends.
Mary Jane is survived by her sons, Justin Meske and his wife, Jane, Jan “JT” Meske, all of Plato; five grandchildren, Timothy Meske of Plato, Alex Meske of Glencoe, Natasha Meske of Santa Rosa, CA, Brittany Meske, and Courtney Meske, both of Portland, OR; cousins Rod Lehrke and his wife, Linda, of Cottage Grove, Fred Lehrke and his wife, Sally, of Wausau, WI, Trudy Graham of Goshen, NY, and Heidi White and her husband, Bernie, of White Plains, NY; other relatives; and many friends.
Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Omer and Ann Justinger; husbands Gerald Meske, and Jack Parr; and a brother, Richard Justinger.
Memorial services took place Saturday, Jan. 7 at 2:30 p.m. at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Norwood Young America with Pastor Donald Andrix officiating. Music was provided by organist Cheryl Andrix, and soloist Jane Meske, who sang “Bridge Over Troubled Waters.” Special music was a Michael English recording of “Midnight Cry.” Congregational hymns were “My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less” and “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God.”
