Bernie Pederson Obituary – 11/6/2011


Bernie Pederson, age 86, of Walker, MN, passed away peacefully Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, at Country Manor in Sartell, MN.

He was born July 11, 1925, to Peder and Christina (Ouren) Pederson. Bernie attended school in Franklin, MN.

He was stationed in the Philippine Islands during his years in the service.

Bernie married Rita Ann Decker of Stewart in 1947. They had four children – Dan (Pam Kohls) of Walker, Nan (Jim Blair) of St. Cloud, Pete (Beth Hafner) of Walker, and Connie (Dale Posl) of Maple Grove – who attended school in Hutchinson.

Bernie belonged to the Knights of Columbus at St. Anastasia Church.

He owned and operated a plastering contracting firm for many years in the Hutchinson area, where he built homes and raised his family.

In 1970, Bernie and Rita bought the liquor store in Lester Prairie with his brother and sister-in-law, Hank and Marilyn Pederson, and they moved to Lester Prairie. They sold this store and moved to Hackensack, in 1979, where they bought Bromley’s 10-Mile Supper Club. After many years of running the club, they sold it and built their final house in Walker on Leech Lake.

Bernie and Rita enjoyed many winters in Apache Junction, AZ, where they had their “snowbird” home.

An active member of the American Legion, the VFW, the Rotary Club, TPA, Ducks Unlimited and the Cooties, Bernie was well-known, well-liked, and had a good heart. He was a willing volunteer for anyone needing his help. His family is grateful to have felt his love, and will always remember his kindness, patience, and great sense of humor.

Bernie was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; three sisters; his wife, Rita; his son, Dan; and his great-grandson, Cole.

He will be greatly missed by his two sisters, Adora Olson of Montevideo (formerly of Franklin), and Gladys Peterson of Cokato; his three children; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many close friends and relatives.

Funeral services took place Thursday, Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Walker, followed by interment in Evergreen Cemetery, Walker.

Visitation was Wednesday evening, Nov. 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Dennis Funeral Home in Walker, and continued Thursday for one hour prior to the services at the church.
