Rev. Myra A. Carroll-Pezzella, 63

The Rev. Myra A. Carroll-Pezzella, age 63, of Howard Lake, was called to her eternal rest Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011, at the Buffalo Hospital.

She was born April 5, 1948, in Minneapolis, to Halsted and Elaine (Lilly) Carroll. Myra grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from Robbinsdale High School in 1966. While in high school, she was involved in Job’s Daughters, and was Honored Queen.

After high school, Myra married Bruce Sherman June 10, 1967, at Grace Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis. Myra and Bruce had two sons, David and Jonathan. Bruce passed away May 15, 1981.

Myra married Alfred Pezzella Oct. 2, 1982, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis.

God called Myra into the ministry. She first attended Macalester College in St. Paul (where she met Al), graduating in 1981. Then, she went on to United Theological Seminary, graduating May 10, 1985. She was ordained at Westminster Sept. 15, 1985.

Myra served as chaplain at Abbott Northwestern Hospital and Presbyterian Homes of Minnesota. She went on to serve as pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Hudson, WI for five years; and for the past seven years has been the pastor at First Presbyterian Church of Howard Lake.

Myra loved to travel and spend time with her grandchildren. She was also an avid reader.

She is survived by her husband, Alfred; mother Elaine Carroll; son David Sherman, with his wife Sandra; son Jonathan Sherman; grandchildren Madison, Joshua, and Elsa Sherman; grandchildren Ryan and Jonathan Bailey; and brothers Joe and Tim Carroll.

In addition to her first husband, Bruce, Myra was preceded in death by her father, Halsted Carroll.

Funeral services took place Friday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis. Interment was Saturday, Sept. 10 at 9 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery of Stillwater.

Visitation took place Thursday, Sept. 8, at First Presbyterian Church of Howard Lake, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.; and continued Friday, Sept. 10, beginning at 5 p.m. at Westminster Church in Minneapolis.

Arrangements were handled by Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake.
