Gladys Anne Poshek, age 98, of Silver Lake, died Friday, July 1, 2011, just 21 days before her 99th birthday.
She was the beloved wife of the late Henry G. Poshek; devoted mother to Henry C. Poshek (Barb), Suzen Brancaccio (Ron), and Elaine Reed; grandmother to Tony, Doug, Dawn, Melissa, Chris, John, Barbara, and Suzanne; great-grandmother to five; and great-great-grandmother to one.
Gladys worked on a self-sufficient farm throughout her life. She was an extraordinary gardener, growing flowers, vegetables, and fruit; and preserving them to last through the long Minnesota winters.
Having taught school earlier in life, Gladys eventually returned to teaching, both helping immigrants to obtain their citizenship, and instructing third and fourth graders at St. Adalbert’s (many of whom remember her fondly).
A devout Catholic her entire life, Gladys was a member of the Rosary Society and Degree of Honor. She made herself available to be part of a prayer line, and was well-known for bringing goodie bags to people who cannot leave their homes, and other such acts of kindness.
An avid reader and an excellent cook with a keen sense of humor, Gladys radiated warmth and charm wherever she went. She took great pride in her appearance, and was always well turned out.
Gladys was laid to rest in the Holy Family Cemetery in Silver Lake, next to her husband, Henry, and not far from her mother, Victoria, her father, Charles, and her brother, Charles.
