Lona L. Radde, 95

Radde, Lona L. (Mrs. Harvey), age 95, of Waconia, died Friday, Aug. 19, 2011, at the Auburn Home in Waconia.

She was born March 25, 1916, in Watertown, the daughter of Henry and Martha (Vollrath) Rudloff. Lona was baptized May 7, 1916, and confirmed April 13, 1930, by Pastor William F. G. Schneider at Trinity Lutheran Church of Waconia.

Lona was married to “her high school sweetheart,” Harvey M. Radde, Sept. 14, 1939, by Pastor Schneider. They started their married life as dairy farmers and were the proud owners of the Harlo Jersey Farm. Their love of draft horses led them to participate in numerous parades and shows.

Music filled Lona’s soul and was her constant companion throughout life. A gifted musician, she shared her passion for music as a private instructor teaching organ, piano, guitar ,and accordion. Her talent flowed over to other instruments such as saxophone and harmonica.

Even in her 90s, Lona continued to volunteer as a pianist at Waconia Good Samaritan and Auburn West (now known as Auburn Home). For over 25 years, she played organ for draft horse shows at area county fairs, until 2001.

Lona sang with the Harmonettes of Norwood for many years and was a member of the choir while she resided at Westview Acres. She could often be heard singing, even at Auburn Home.

A special memory for Lona was the time she and Harvey shared after his retirement. Their travels to Germany and Colorado were especially dear to her heart.

After Harvey passed away, Lona volunteered at Ridgeview Medical Center. She “retired” in 2010, at the age of 94, after over 25 years of service.

God blessed Lona with an artistic nature, which was evident in her many hobbies. She enjoyed crafting, gardening, canning, sewing, and was an avid scrapbooker, long before the current craze. Numerous children have been comforted by the teddy bears she created for the Waconia Ridgeview Ambulance department.

Her other involvements included the Mayer Riverside 4-H Club, lifelong membership at Trinity Lutheran Church, and Trinity Seniors for Christ. She loved M & M’s, Easter candy, and apple dessert pizza.

Lona was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a special person who devoted her life to her faith, her family, and her friends, in that order.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey; grandson Noah A. Radde; and parents, Henry and Martha Rudloff.

Lona will be dearly missed by her loving family: children and spouses, Rev. Donn and Sharon Radde of Marshfield, WI, Davis and Venne Radde of Las Vegas, NV, Dayle and Jan Radde of Norwood Young America, Deatra and Robert Presuhn of Ridgefield, WA, Darel and Krista Radde of Cologne; Grandchildren, Rachel and Jeremy Fresia, Matthew Radde, Bethany and J.R. Pulham, Mark Radde, Philip Radde, Lukas Radde, Leah Radde, Lee Radde, Lael Radde, Logan Radde; Great-grandchildren Jonathan and Jacob Fresia; Sister and brother-in-law Myra and Leonard Jaekel of Belle Plaine; Brother and sister-in-law Hilner and Marvella Rudloff of Mora; Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The funeral service was Monday, Aug. 22 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia, with visitation beginning at noon, prior to the service, at the church. The Rev. Phil Wagner officiated, and interment was in the church cemetery.

Casket bearers were Matthew Radde, Mark Radde, Philip Radde, Lukas Radde, Lee Radde, and Logan Radde.
