Grace H. Rassat, 88

Grace H. Rassat, age 88, of rural Waverly, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, at The Howard Lake Good Samaritan Center.

She was born May 4, 1922, in Maple Lake, the daughter of Martin and Hazel (McAlpine) Wurm.

Grace Wurm and Leo Rassat were joined in holy marriage May 12, 1943, at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church in Maple Lake.

In November of 1943, Grace and Leo moved to a farm in Marysville Township, Wright County.

Grace enjoyed living on the farm, nature, canning, cooking, and baking. She especially enjoyed visits with her children and grandchildren, liked to play cards, and loved to dance.

A faithful member of The Church of St. Mary in Waverly, Grace belonged to The Council of Catholic Women.

She is survived by her loving children: Tom Rassat of Buffalo, Kay (Gary) Manteuffel of Elk River, Mary Rassat of Monticello, Lloyd (Barb) Rassat of Buffalo, John (Karen) Rassat of Waverly, Greg (Lisa) Rassat of Maple Lake, Tim (Vonnie) Rassat of Winsted, and David Rassat of Minneapolis; 14 grandchildren: Charlie, Sam and Josie Rassat; Megan and Tom Manteuffel; Jared and Brian Rassat; Travis and Becky Rassat; Dan, Abby and Aaron Rassat; Tim Rassat Jr. and Sheila (Rassat) Moeller; and eight great-grandchildren: Nadia, Paige, Zachary, Hannah, Katelyn, Evan, Natalie and Mia.

Grace is further survived by sisters and a brother: Sr. Betty, Maxine (Leonard) Schaust, Eloise (Richard) Smith, Hazel (Allen) Decker, Jim (Marlene) Wurm, and Arlene (Wayne) Jude; sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law Marie Wurm, Ann (Wurm) Cruikshank, Margaret Wurm, Marvin (Grace) Rasset and Evelyn Rasset; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Rassat; three infants: Joan, Mark and Michael Rassat; her parents, Martin and Hazel Wurm; a grandson, Patrick Rassat; and sisters and brothers Agnes (Slyvester) Piram, Tom Wurm, Roy Wurm, Tim Wurm, and Mary (Bill) Jandro.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 10:30 a.m. at The Church of St. Mary in Waverly with Father Timothy Cloutier as the celebrant. Interment was at St. Timothy Cemetery in Maple Lake.

Visitation was Tuesday, Jan. 18 from 4 to 8 p.m. at The Church of St. Mary in Waverly.

Casket bearers were Grace’s sons: Tom, Lloyd, John, Greg, Tim, and David Rassat.

The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.
