Lorraine Eliza Reimer, age 95, of Howard Lake, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at the Howard Lake Good Samaritan Nursing Home.
She was born Oct. 16, 1916, in Albion Township, to Henry and Irene (Zander) Mahlstedt. Lorraine grew up on the farm in Albion and was baptized and confirmed at the Bethlehem Evangelical Reformed Church.
She attended country school in Albion.
Lorraine was united in marriage to Frederic Anthony Reimer April 12, 1939, at the Bethlehem Evangelical and Reformed Church by the Rev. Groupe. They farmed and raised their family on a farm in Woodland Township.
Lorraine worked for the Grahm family, doing cleaning and housework for a time. In 1960, she started an interior painting company with her sisters.
Frederic and Lorraine sold their farm in 1966, and moved into Howard Lake.
Lorraine enjoyed many hobbies. While on the farm, she raised chickens, trading the eggs for groceries. She enjoyed gardening, and was very good with flowers, especially violets. She also enjoyed quilting, and was an excellent baker.
She is survived by her children, Fred Jr. of Montrose, and Linda (Joel) Zabel of Delano; 11 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 19 great-grand children; six step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Eliza Haag; and daughter-in-law Kathy Reimer.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Irene Mahlsted; husband Frederic; a son, Phillip; daughter-in-law Marie Reimer; and brothers and sisters, Frances Hoffman, Fritz Mahlstedt, Rebecca Dalbec, Helen Duske, Max Mahlstedt, and Walter Mahlsted.
Funeral services took place Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 11 a.m. at the Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Maple Lake. Interment was at the church cemetery
Visitation was Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 13 at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake, which handled the arrangements.
