Gerald M. Schaffer Obituary – 7/17/2011


Gerald M. Schaffer, age 53, of Dassel, formerly of Little Falls, died Sunday, July 17, 2011, at his home.

Gerry was born March 16, 1958, in Little Falls, to Rose (Kary) and the late Paul Schaffer. He attended and graduated from Little Falls Community High School with the class of 1976.

After graduation, Gerry served his country proudly for four years with the US Air Force and, upon his honorable discharge, he completed his bachelor’s degree at the University of Minnesota.

Gerry was self-employed as a cabinet maker for many years, and later opened a business in Dassel installing fireplaces, called “Fireplaces By Design.”

In his free time, Gerry enjoyed working in his yard and tending to his garden. He also had a great love for the birds in his yard and for the beauty of nature.

Gerry is survived by his mother, Rose Schaffer of Coon Rapids; siblings Alex (Esther) Schaffer of Alexandria, Dick (Rhoda) Schaffer of Chanhassen, Elmer (Terry) Schaffer of Little Falls, Diane (Larry) DeRosier of Andover, Paul (Sook) Schaffer of Chicago, IL, Mary (Roger) Hansgard of Dayton, Lynda Schaffer of Coon Rapids, and Kathy (Dave) Zimmer of Royalton; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul J. Schaffer.

Mass of Christian Burial took place Thursday, July 21 at 11 a.m. at Epiphany Catholic Church in Coon Rapids with Father Gregory Abbott officiating. Burial followed in the Epiphany Parish Cemetery in Coon Rapids.

Funeral arrangements were with the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls.
