Glenna Schumacher Obituary – 6/1/2011


Schumacher, Glenna E. age 98 of Mayer passed away on Wednesday June 1, 2011 at the Elim Home in Watertown.

Funeral service was Saturday June 4, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer with Rev. Adam Gless officiating. Visitation was 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment Zion Lutheran Cemetery.

Glenna was born Sept. 19, 1912 in Mayer the daughter of Herman and Magdalena (Hill) Zummach. She was baptized Oct. 13, 1912 at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer by Rev. F.W. Erthal and confirmed April 10, 1927 at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer by Rev. F.W. Erthal.

On Oct. 18, 1933 she was united in marriage to Erwin K. Schumacher at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer by Rev. F.W. Erthal.

Glenna was a loving, caring person who loved taking care of her husband and family. She had the gift of hospitality enjoying people at her home and providing them with a “little something” to eat with plenty left over.

Her husband Erwin and his brother Wally farmed west of Mayer until 1965 when Glenna and Erwin moved to Eden Prairie. She took pride in foods she was able to process and keeping her home tidy and clean. Grandchildren would often speak of her culinary skills making fried chicken, pies and cookies.

Glenna was a strong Christian woman who raised her family to love the Lord. She took great pride that her sons became teachers in Lutheran schools.

Through the years Glenna was a hard working woman accommodating herself to her husband’s love for the farm life. She enjoyed her flower and produce gardens. She also worked at Johnny Grimm’s Store, Green Giant corn plant, Ziemer’s Greenhouse, Powell Candy Co, and in her post retirement years worked as a house cleaning woman until she was 90.

In 2004 she moved to Westwood Place in Watertown and lived there until November, 2010 when she was placed in the Elim Home in Watertown.

Glenna was preceded in death by her loving husband Erwin; son Joel; great-grandchild Seth Schumacher; parents Herman and Magdalena Zummach; brother Waldemar Zummach; sisters Flora Luedtke, Margaret Zellman Burau and Luella Granzow.

Glenna is survived by her loving family; son and daughters-in-law Jim and Lorri Schumacher of Bay City, Michigan, Carla Schumacher of Eden Prairie; grandchildren Mike and Lori Schumacher, Mark and Trish Schumacher, Tim and Lanette Schumacher, Vikki and Rob Camper, Scott and Anita Schumacher; great-grandchildren Kaia, Kalli, Sam, Peter, Karl, Dane, Mackenzie, Lauren, Alex and Jamie. She is further survived by sister Martha Kuntz of Watertown, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Casket bearers were Maynard Schumacher, Duane Schumacher, Willis Schumacher, David Schumacher, Ronald Zellman, and Rodney Kuntz.
