Ervin H. Seefeldt Obituary – 11/7/2011


Ervin Henry Seefeldt, age 83, of Lester Prairie, entered his eternal rest Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.

He was born April 22, 1928, in Bergen Township, the son of Edwin and Anna (Birkholz) Seefeldt. Ervin was baptized May 6, 1928, by the Rev. A. Spleiss, and confirmed in his faith March 29, 1942, by the Rev. E. H. Stahlke, both at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.

Ervin attended parochial school and high school in Lester Prairie.

He was united in marriage to Harriet Lieske June 22, 1969, by Dr. Martin Lieske at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Arlington Township, MN. The couple made their home on the family farm in Bergen Township, Lester Prairie, and shared over 32 years of marriage, until Harriet passed away May 9, 2002.

Ervin farmed on the family farm and started helping his uncle with carpenter work. He held employment with Herb Birkholz Construction Company in Lester Prairie for 40 years.

A lifelong member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, Ervin served as the Sunday School superintendent and sang in the church choir. He was also a member of the Lutheran Layman’s League, McLeod County Historical Society, Lester Prairie Senior Citizens, and McLeod County Republican Party.

Ervin was patriotic and faithful to his family and church. He knew the Bible very well, and loved to greet people at church.

He enjoyed socializing with people, gardening, playing cards, and watching the birds; and especially cherished time spent with family and friends.

Ervin is survived by his sister, Elsie Gilster of Lester Prairie; brother Arnold Seefeldt of Lester Prairie; niece Patsy Schauer and her husband, Steve, of Glencoe; nephews Timothy Seefeldt and his wife, Beth, of New Germany, and Paul Seefeldt of Lester Prairie, great nieces and nephews, Mike Schauer and his wife, Kim, Mandy Lyons and her husband, Jason, all of Lester Prairie, Billy Schauer and his wife, Crystal, of Silver Lake, Joey Schauer and his wife, Jen, of Glencoe, Adam Seefeldt and his wife, Ashley, of Lester Prairie, Amy Seefeldt, Alyssa Seefeldt, and Ashley Seefeldt, all of New Germany; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jackie Lieske of Mankato, Kenneth Bode and his wife, Shirley, of Nicollet, and Dean Rudloff and his wife, Jan, of Medford; good friend, Al Wiechman of Stewart; other great nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

In addition to his wife, Harriet, Ervin was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Anna Seefeldt; sister-in-law Margaret Seefeldt; and brothers-in-law, Carl Gilster and Wilbur Lieske.

The funeral service took place Saturday, Nov. 12, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.

Visitation was Friday, Nov. 11 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church, and continued Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Arrangements were by the Hantge-McBride-Hughes Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.
