Gayle W. Smith Obituary – 3/22/2011


Gayle W. Smith, age 81, of Maple Plain, formerly of LaPorte, IN, died Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at the Haven Homes in Maple Plain.

He was born Dec. 24, 1929, in LaPorte, IN, to Rupert and Dollie (Roach) Smith.

Gayle served in the USMC during the Korean War, from 1951 to 1954, being honorably discharged at the rank of sergeant.

He possessed a lifelong love of farming, and was an accomplished mechanic. Gayle could fix anything.

He also loved to dance, as long as it was a polka or square dancing.

Gayle was preceded in death by his parents; a sister-in-law, Barbara Smith; and nephews Daniel Smith and Steve Six.

He is survived by his children, Gayle T. Smith and Samantha Postelmans; stepdaughter Bunny Siebert; numerous grandchildren; brother Duane and sister Patsy (Glenn) Six; nieces Rebecca, Ellen and Sharon; nephew Duane; and the great nieces and nephews who loved him dearly; as well as many friends.

Mass of Christian Burial took place Friday March 25 at 11 a.m. at St. Dunstans’ Anglican Church in St. Louis Park, with visitation for one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Interment was in the Salem Heights Cemetery in LaPorte, IN.
