Dorothy B. Strei Obituary – 3/3/2011


Dorothy B. Strei, age 91, of New Germany, died Thursday, March 3, 2011, at the Elim Home in Watertown.

Dorothy was born March 9, 1919, in Mayer, the daughter of Bernard and Lena (Mielke) Rother. She was baptized and confirmed at Ascension Catholic Church in Norwood.

Dorothy was united in marriage to Roland A. Strei Oct. 24, 1939, in Chaska.

Dorothy loved to embroider tablecloths and dish towels. She enjoyed being in the kitchen, cooking and baking and also canning different vegetables from her garden. Dorothy always had a good time playing card games, especially sheephead and 500.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland; parents Bernard and Lena Rother, a grandson, Randy Strei; a great-grandson, Matthew Amundson; and a sister, Blanche Habisch.

Dorothy is survived by her loving family: children and spouses, Ron and Bonnie Strei of Norwood Young America, Dale and Arlene Strei of Nevis, Bob and Madeline Strei of Mound, and Jim Strei of New Germany; grandchildren Jolene Beckmann, Brian Strei, Vicky Strei, Kathy and Jim Thomas, Debra and Wade Mickelson, Douglas Amundson, Nathan Strei, Anna and Adam Koglin, Christina and Mark Tredray, and Kati and Neil Kuhnau; great-grandchildren Joshua, Lance, Britani, Mathew, Rebecca, Melissa, Tracy, Kelly, Andrew, Rebecca, and Gabriel: and great-great-grandchildren Isabella, Jarrett and Julian.

She is further survived by a brother-in-law, Walter Habisch of Watertown; sisters-in-law Evelyn Strei, and Aurelia Strei, both of Lester Prairie; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service took place Sunday March 6 at 2 p.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany with the Rev. LeRoy LaPlant officiating. Interment was at St. Mark Lutheran Cemetery.

There was visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.

Dorothy’s grandchildren were her casket bearers.
