Gerald Stuedemann Obituary – 8/25/2011


Gerald Gerhardt Stuedemann, age 69, of Gaylord, died Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, at his home, surrounded by his children.

He was born July 10, 1942, in Glencoe, the son of Wilbert and Hilda (Wiebke) Stuedemann. Gerald was baptized as an infant, and confirmed in his faith as a youth March 26, 1956, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Plato.

Gerald received his education in Lester Prairie, and was a 1960 graduate of the Lester Prairie High School.

He served his country in the United States Army National Guard, where he achieved the rank of Specialist Fifth Class E-5. He was honorably discharged Feb. 17, 1966.

Gerald was united in marriage to Gail Schultz Sept. 7, 1962, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Plato. After their marriage, the couple resided in Lester Prairie, where Gerald farmed and was also employed by Schwartz Manufacturing.

Gerald served on the volunteer fire department and the police reserves in Lester Prairie, and he enjoyed building, welding, and fixing things.

In 1974, after a move to Gaylord, Gerald worked in sales and management for Moormans until 1979, when he began working for Wacker Implement in Glencoe.

After his retirement, Gerald worked various other jobs, including with Knight Security at Menards.

Gerald was a member of American Lutheran Church in Gaylord.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, wood cutting, remodeling, and the outdoors; and especially loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Gerald is survived by Gail Stuedemann of Gaylord; children Michelle Ellzey and her husband, Max, of Franklin, TN, Brenda Trout and her husband, Danny, Bryan Stuedemann, all of Gaylord, Brad Stuedemann of Glencoe, and Kirstin Stuedemann of Gaylord; 12 grandchildren, Caroline, Courtland, Alex, Bethany, Alia, Dylan, Jake, Hanna, Megan, Devin, Madison, and Brianna; and two great-grandchildren, Onyx and Sophia.

He is further survived by his siblings, Aileen Dammann and her husband, Earl, Eldana Soeffker and her husband, Bud, all Glencoe, Gloriane Sprengeler and her husband, the Rev. Erwin of Green Isle, and Wilton Stuedemann and his wife, Betty Ann, of Plato; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; and grandparents.

Memorial services took place Monday, Aug. 29 at 11 a.m. at American Lutheran Church in Gaylord, with the Rev. Paul Kratzke officiating. The eulogy was by the Rev. Erwin Sprengeler, and music was provided by organist, Marge Matthiae, with special music, “Go Rest High On That Mountain.” Congregational hymns were “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” “Amazing Grace,” and “How Great Thou Art.”

Gerald’s grandchildren were his urnbearers.
