Mary H. Swartzer Obituary – 10/30/2011


Mary Helen Swartzer, age 65, of Buffalo, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011, at St. Cloud Hospital.

She was born June 22, 1946, in Watertown, to Leo and Rufina (Ramola) Florekon.

Mary Helen graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Waverly in 1964.

She married Eugene Swartzer Dec. 2, 1967, and lived in Montrose and Delano, before moving to Buffalo in 1988.

Mary Helen worked at NAPA in Delano for many years as a bookkeeper.

She was a member of the Delano Legion Auxiliary, the Northwest Deanery, and was involved in the Boys Scouts.

Mary Helen loved life and fought hard against cancer for eight years.

She is survived by her husband, Eugene; children Michelle (Mike) Baker of Sauk Rapids, Paul Swartzer of Park Rapids, Margaret (Scott) Tornio of Appleton, WI, and Jane (Tim) Kiphuth of Monticello; grandchildren Matthew, Mitchell, Marshall, and Mackenzie Alger, Cody and Ashlee Swartzer, Ian Paulson, Alex Tornio, and Wyatt and Addison Kiphuth; a brother, Kevin (Pat) Florek; and sisters Karen (Alan) Hoskins and Janyse Florek.

Mary Helen was preceded in death by her parents.

Mass of Christian Burial took place Wednesday, Nov. 2 at noon at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Buffalo, with visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Interment will be in Ft. Snelling Cemetery at a later date.

The Peterson Chapel of Buffalo assisted the family with arrangements.
