Ruth Dorothy (Schill) Unterburger, age 91, of Darwin, died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, at the Lakeside Health Care Center of Dassel.
She was born July 23, 1920, in St. Augusta, the daughter of Joseph and Agnus (Knopp) Schill. Ruth grew up in the St. Augusta area, and received her GED in 1983.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith, and was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Darwin at the time of her death.
Ruth was united in marriage to Clarence Unterburger Aug. 14, 1941, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Augusta. The couple made their home in St. Cloud, Forest City, and Pearl Lake, before moving to a farm in Kimball.
In September of 1953, they moved to Darwin, where Ruth had made her home until she moved into the Lakeside Health Care Center of Dassel.
For many years, Ruth had worked for Tonka Toys, Litchfield Garment Factory, and 3-M in Hutchinson.
She was an avid quilter, enjoyed vegetable gardening, grew very beautiful flowers, and liked to play cards. Ruth loved spending time with her family and hosted every holiday, having the family over for holiday meals.
She had been a member of the Darwin Community Club, Christian Women’s organization, and the Daughters of Isabella.
Ruth is survived by her children, Kathy (David) Erickson of St. Cloud, Jeanette (Gilbert) Anderson of Dassel, Theresa (Phil) Kloeckl, Ralph Unterburger, all of Darwin, Carol (Dale) Miller of Paynesville, Linda (Jerry) Fuchs of Bowlus, Rita Schilling of Hopkins, Joyce (Ron) Slyder of Hutchinson, Mary (Ed) Vincent of Ramsey, Duane Unterburger of Litchfield, David (Dawn) Unterburger of Ham Lake, Barbara (Paul) Hoeper of Darwin, Donald Unterburger of Gillette, WY, Jeffrey Unterburger of Monticello, and Betty (Mike) Willing of Darwin; 36 grandchildren; and 30 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; two brothers, George Schill and Joseph Schill Jr.; one sister, Eleanor Schendzilous; and one great-grandchild, Kayla Benage.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place Sunday, Nov. 6 at 4 p.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Darwin with Father John Pearson officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery.
Visitation was Saturday, Nov. 5 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel, with a parish prayer service at 7 p.m.; and continued Sunday one hour prior to the Mass at the church.
The Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel handled the arrangements.
