Janet Marie Vacek, age 68, of Hutchinson, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, April 12, 2011.
She was born Dec. 11, 1942, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Leonard and Irene (Schultz) Kegler.
Janet was joined in holy marriage to Joseph Vacek Oct. 7, 1961. God blessed this union with three children.
Janet was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake, where she was active with the Rosary Society and the Council of Catholic Women (CCW).
She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and a board member for the Hutchinson library.
Janet had a love for all animals, especially cats, and enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, baking and traveling.
She was an Outreach Worker with Heartland Community Action Agency and loved to help people in need.
Janet is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Joe Vacek; her mother, Irene (Schultz) Kegler; children, Tom (Deb) Vacek, Mary Vacek, and John Vacek; grandchildren Steve Kalenberg and Brian Kalenberg; and siblings Marion (Donald) Lhotka, Harlen (Gayle) Kegler, Bonnie (Lannie) Grages, and Marlene (Jim) Kulinski.
She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Kegler; sister, Roxanne Kegler; and father and mother-in-law, Joe and Mary (Papesh) Vacek.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, April 18 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake.Fr. Tony Stubeda and Fr. Patrick Okonkwo were the celebrants.
Pallbearers were Kyle Kulinski, Donald Benz, Carey “Ace’” Alsleben, Matthew “Matty” Fleck, Donald Miskovsky, Ron Miskosky, and Ron Penas. Interment was in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Silver Lake.
Visitation took place Sunday, April 17 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Maresh Funeral Home of Silver Lake, with a rosary service at 5:30 p.m., and parish prayers at 6 p.m.; and continued Monday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the McLeod County Food Shelf.
