Daniel Lee “Dan” Wroge, age 60, of Lester Prairie, passed away Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born May 26, 1951, in Glencoe, the son of Vernon and Betty (Bergmann) Wroge. Daniel was baptized as an infant, June 17, 1951, by the Rev. R. A. Ritz, and was later confirmed in his faith, April 25, 1965, by the Rev. Marxhausen, both at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.
He received his education from Mayer Lutheran High School, graduating with the class of 1969. Dan continued his education by attending Augsburg College in Minneapolis.
Dan was united in marriage to Diane Strassburg May 29, 1976, by the Rev. Arthur Rasch at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. This marriage was blessed with six children, Nicholas, Shelly, Savannah, Samuel, Madison, and Logan.
Dan and Diane made their home on the family farm until 2011, when they moved to Winsted. They shared 35 years of marriage.
Dan was a dairy farmer and held employment with People Service from Omaha, NE as a wastewater regional manager.
He was a lifelong member at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, where he served on the board of education and the cemetery board. Dan was also an election judge.
A fun, hardworking, strong and courageous man, which he showed in his battle with cancer, Dan was full of love and enjoyed people. He loved to bowl, read, go to water parks, and watch the Minnesota Twins and Winsted Wildcats. He cherished the time spent with his family and friends.
Dan is survived by his wife, Diane Wroge of Winsted; children Shelly Norman and her husband, Ryan, of Sacile, Italy, Savannah Wroge of Eden Prairie, Samuel Wroge, Madison Wroge, and Logan Wroge, all of Winsted; a grandchild, Reagan Norman; his mother, Betty Wroge of Lester Prairie; and siblings Patrice Rozeske of Eau Claire, WI, and David Wroge and his wife, Lori, of Lester Prairie.
He is further survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Debra Hilleary and her husband, Douglas, Robert Strassburg and his wife, Tina, all of Jackson, MI, David Strassburg and his wife, Kim, of Megan, GA, and John Strassburg of Jackson, MI; and lots of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Nicholas Wroge; father, Vernon Wroge; sister, Susan Mueller; father- and mother-in-law, Gerald and Lorraine Strassburg; and a brother-in-law, Bob Rozeske.
Funeral services took place Friday, Dec. 9 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, with interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Eric Nelson officiated, and Marsha Christenson was the organist. Congregational hymns were “How Great Thou Art, “Praise To The Lord, The Almighty,” “Silent Night,” and “Amazing Grace.”
Casket bearers were Keith Ide, Kenny Johnson, Bruce Johnson, Wayne Oberlander, Kent Kassaulker, and Jim Sandquist.
