Wayne Wendell Zeppelin, age 66, of Darwin, died Thursday, July 7, 2011, at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis.
He was born Oct. 24, 1944, in Litchfield, the son of Henry and Myrtle (Beckstrand) Zeppelin.Wayne grew up in Darwin, and was baptized and confirmed at the All Saints Lutheran Church in Darwin.
He attended and graduated from the Dassel High School in 1962.
Wayne was united in marriage to Katherine Anderson Aug. 29, 1964, at the All Saints Lutheran Church in Darwin. They made their home on Lake Washington.
Wayne was a traffic manager for Custom Products in Litchfield, and had also worked for many years for Quast Trucking in Winsted, and Raydot in Cokato, until he retired.
An active man who enjoyed the outdoors in many ways, Wayne’s first three loves of his life were his family, bass fishing, and turkey hunting. He was an avid fisherman and participated in many fishing tournaments.
He had been a member of the Darwin Rod and Gun Club, and enjoyed hunting for ducks, pheasants, grouse, geese, and even oversized rodents (deer). He had taken a trip to Colorado, where he hunted elk.
Wayne also enjoyed trap shooting and sporting clays shooting, and loved to be outside taking care of his yard and tinkering around the house. He took great pride in all of his possessions. He loved family gatherings and was very fond of Easter and the 4th of July.
Wayne was a straightforward, honest man who never shied away from telling the truth about a matter when it needed to be said. He never judged a person, and always looked for the positive in anyone he met. Wayne will be deeply missed by his family and his friends.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine, of Darwin; sons Shane (Kristine) Zeppelin, Jason (Lyn) Zeppelin, and Chad (Deb) Zeppelin, all of Litchfield; 10 grandchildren, Jessica Zeppelin, Joshua Fasching, Brittany Zeppelin, William Fasching, Liz Bruenger, Cheyenne Zeppelin, Devin Zeppelin, Trevor Zeppelin, Carter Zeppelin, and Remington Zeppelin; and two brothers, Everet (Marjorie) Zeppelin, and Harlow (Cheri) Zeppelin.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Myrtle; sister DiAnn Schmitz; and an infant sister, Donna Mae.
The funeral service took place Tuesday, July, 12 at 1 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Litchfield with the Rev. Christa Forsythe officiating.
Visitation was Monday evening, July 11 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel, and continued Tuesday, one hour prior to the service at the church.
The Johnson Funeral Home of Dassel handled the arrangements.
