Francis (Fran) Anthony Bauman, age 86, of Delano, died unexpectedly Friday, Dec. 21, 2012.
He was born Feb. 12, 1926, in Delano, to George and Theresa (Muckenhirn) Bauman.
Fran was united in marriage to Ruth Sutton Aug. 25, 1951, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Delano. He and Ruth were foster parents to over 30 children over the years.
Fran loved to socialize, and always looked forward to coffee with “the boys.” He was a past volunteer at the Delano Senior Center, with the Red Cross, and with the Delano Catholic Community.
He is a retired member of Delano American Legion Post 377.
Upon retirement, Fran and Ruth became snowbirds, and have enjoyed many winters in the south.
Fran was preceded in death by his parents, George and Theresa Bauman; brothers Bill Bauman, and Ralph Bauman; sister Mary Boisvert; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Art Boisvert, Jim Lundsten, Lowell Berchtold, Dick Merriman, Dorothy Bauman, and Betty Powers.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruth; children Nancy (Lance) Wetter, Dick (Neta) Bauman, Joan (Alan) Zeltner, Patricia (Doug) Bruhn, Jim (Colleen) Bauman, and Jeff (Katie) Bauman; 12 grandchildren, Erik (Robyn) Wetter, Kyle (Brenda) Bauman, Ryan (Molly) Wetter, Chad (Ashley) Bauman, Allison (Anthony) Hesano, Kelli (Mike) Wendland, Jacqueline Bruhn and fiancé Benjamin Gottlieb, Maxx Bauman, Madison Bauman, Matthew Zeltner, Cole Bauman, and Abagail Bauman; and seven great-grandchildren, Charlie Bauman, Olivia Hesano, Joey Bauman, Gordon Wetter, Drew Bauman, Avery Hesano, Louis Wendland and one on the way.
He is further survived by sisters and brother-in-law Ann Lundsten, Georgia Berchtold, Barb Merriman, Lucille (Jim) Ronan, and Edie Moran; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Edward and Leona Clark.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Thursday, Dec. 27 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church in Delano, followed by interment with military honors in Calvary Cemetery in Delano.
Visitation was Wednesday, Dec. 26 from 4 to 8 p.m. in Martha’s Hall of St. Peter Catholic Church, and continued Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to Mass in Martha’s Hall. There was a 3:30 p.m. rosary service Wednesday in the Martha Hall.
Arrangements were by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
