Janell Lou Bernard, age 58, of Glencoe, died Friday, June 1, 2012, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care after a two-year battle with cancer.
She was born Dec. 2, 1953, in Glencoe, the daughter of Alvin and Cordella (Gebhardt) Schultz. Janell was baptized as an infant Dec. 20, 1953, by the Rev. W. Smith at Grace Lutheran Church in Brownton, and was confirmed in her faith as a youth April 7, 1968, by the Rev. R. W. Koepp at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe.
Janell received her education in Glencoe, and was a graduate of the Glencoe High School class of 1972.
Janell was united in marriage to Roger Bernard May 22, 1976, by the Rev. E. W. Blumenkamp at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. Janell and Roger made their home in Lester Prairie and Glencoe, and shared 36 years of marriage.
Throughout her life, Janell cherished family celebrations and was a great hostess. She cherished her time spent with friends and family members, and enjoyed baking and decorating her home. She also crocheted, collected dolls, and loved flower gardening.
Janell was a faithful member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, in Glencoe where she served generously as a member and leader in the Ladies Guild.
Janell was employed most of her adult working life at Starkey’s Lab in Glencoe, and in recent years, at Wal-Mart in Hutchinson. She also worked at Telex in Glencoe prior to her employment at Starkey’s.
She is survived by her husband, Roger Bernard, of Glencoe; mother, Cordella Schultz of Glencoe; siblings Arlo Schultz and his wife, Virginia, of Elk River, Charlene Leone and her husband, George, of Tacoma, WA, Ronald Schultz of Folson, CA, Juliene Beeth of Palmer, AK, and Linda Matousek and her husband, Mike, of Glencoe; brothers-in-law Jim Bernard and his wife, Lavonne, and Lester Bernard and his wife, Mary, all of Las Vegas, NV; a sister-in-law, Sharon Jones and her husband, Edward “Bud,” of Las Vegas, NV; nieces; nephews; great nieces; great nephews; other relatives; and many friends.
Janell was preceded in death by her father, Alvin Schultz; her father- and mother-in-law, David and Beatrice Bernard; her grandparents; as well as many aunts and uncles.
Memorial services took place Thursday, June 7 at 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glencoe, with interment following at First Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Glencoe. Pastor James Gomez officiated at the services, and the organist was Jan Heins. Congregational hymns were “Nearer My God To Thee,” “Rock Of Ages,” “In The Garden,” and “On Eagle’s Wings.”
Janell’s nieces and nephews were her honorary urn bearers.
