Arlene M. Buckles, 90

Arlene Marjorie Meyer Buckles, age 90, formerly of Pittsburg, KS, passed away Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, at the Bickford at Mission Springs in Mission, KS.

She was born Aug. 27, 1921, at Lester Prairie, to William F. and Martha (Krant) Kuhlmann. Arlene was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Bergen Township.

She graduated from Lester Prairie High School in 1939, and from the Minnesota School of Business in 1941.

Arlene married Edwin William Meyer Oct. 12, 1941.

On July 2, 1966, she was united in marriage to Dr. James L. Buckles in Sioux Falls, SD. He preceded her in death June 8, 2005.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers; and a stepson, Jim Buckles, Jr.

Arlene worked for The March of Dimes in Sioux Falls, helping to organize the distribution of the first polio vaccine. In Pittsburg, she worked for Head Start of Southeast Kansas and as a hostess at the Holiday Inn. She spent many years working side-by-side with her husband, Jim, as the receptionist and friendly face at their chiropractic office.

Arlene was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Pittsburg, KS.

Her family is thankful and grateful for her long life, her work ethic, her sense of humor, and the love she gave to all of them.

Arlene is survived by two daughters, Robyn Meyer Hart and husband Kelly of Fairway, KS, and Kim Meyer Geier of Fountain, CO; two stepsons, Steve Buckles of Highland, CA, and Rick Buckles and wife Debbie of Oklahoma City, OK; and three grandchildren, Zack Hart, Meredith Hart, and Randal Geier.

A memorial service took place Saturday, Aug. 25 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Pittsburg, KS with the Rev. Theodore Cook officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
