Joel Frederick Bulthuis, age 51, of Delano, died unexpectedly Sunday, April 29, 2012 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
He was born June 28, 1960, at Clara City, to Richard and Helen Bulthuis. Joel was baptized and confirmed at Bunde Christian Reform Church.
He attended school in Clara City, and graduated in 1978. He furthered his education at St. Cloud Vo-Tech.
Joel was united in marriage to Tamara Grussing Aug. 19, 1989, at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City. They were blessed with three children, Anna, Alex and Alaina.
Joel enjoyed spending time with his family, family vacations, and working outside on his yard and in the garden. He was quite a handyman, a woodworker, a perfectionist, and great at everything he touched. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife, Tamara of Delano; children Anna, Alex and Alaina, all at home; his mother, Helen Goertzen of Hutchinson; a brother, Ronald (Mary) Bulthuis of Rice; sisters Brenda (Dennis) Dummer of Hutchinson, Peggy (Mike) Slaghter of Lynchburg, VA, Pat (Jim) Philipske of Inver Grove Heights, Debbie (Gene) Wales of Maple Grove, and Joy (Eric) Halstrom of Peoria, AZ; several aunts and one uncle; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his father, Richard Bulthuis; and mother-in-law Lavonne Grussing.
Funeral services took place Friday, May 4 at 1 p.m. at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City, with interment in the Bunde Christian Reformed Church Cemetery in Bunde, MN.
Visitation was Thursday, May 3 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Iten Funeral Home in Delano, with a 7 p.m. prayer service; and continued Friday one hour prior to the services in the church.
Arrangements were handled by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
