Mary Ann Cardinal, 94

Mary Ann Cardinal, age 94, of Lester Prairie, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at the Cokato Manor.

She was born May 26, 1918, in Grand Marais, the daughter of Frances and Mary Beaudette Babineau.

Mary Ann was joined in holy marriage with Russell J. Cardinal Nov. 26, 1936, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Grand Marais. God blessed their marriage with three children.

Mary and Russell engaged in farming for many years in Middleville Township, Wright County. Mary was also formerly employed as a press operator at Tonka Toys in Mound for 21-and-one-half years.

She was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, and belonged to St. Anne’s Society.

Mary is survived by her children, Rosella A. (Gerald) Quast of Winsted, and Raymond R. (Jan) Cardinal of Waverly; a daughter-in-law, Kaye Cardinal of Fifty Lakes; eight grandchildren: Ronald (Janet) Cardinal, Daniel (Pam) Cardinal, Lynn (Brad) Schlagel; Bradley (Rita) Quast, Brenda (Marv) Vetsch; Jeremy (Chris) Cardinal, John (Kristy) Cardinal ,and Jesse (Angela) Cardinal; 21 great- grandchildren: Matt, Valerie, Cassie, Michelle, Samantha, Becca, Megan, Andrew, Julia, Timothy, Aleah, Kyle, Jolie, Angie, Gina, Weston, Anastasia, Olivia, Emma, Ryan and Lauren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She is further survived by sisters-in-law Florence Cardinal of Montrose, and Luella Simon of Hutchinson; and many other relatives and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Russell J. Cardinal Nov. 29, 2000; a son, Kenneth E. Cardinal; her parents; a brother, Reuben Babineau; and a sister, Olive Dalbec.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted with Father Paul Schumacher as the celebrant. Interment followed at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation was Tuesday, Jan. 1 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.; and continued Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Casket bearers were Mary’s grandchildren: Ronald and Daniel Cardinal, Lynn Schlagel, Bradley Quast, Brenda Vetsch, and Jeremy, John, and Jesse Cardinal.
