Donald Lowell Carlson, age 90, of Dassel, died Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, at the Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
He was born Feb. 10, 1921, in Collinwood Township, Meeker County, the son of Charles and Ida (Wallen) Carlson.
Donald grew up on the family farm in Collinwood Township, and graduated from the Dassel High School in 1940.
He was a lifelong farmer.
Donald was united in marriage to Jean Abbott Nov. 11, 1944. The couple made their home on the family farm in the Lake Jennie community. They celebrated their 67th year of marriage in 2011.
Don enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He had played baseball for a local town team, and bowled in league bowling. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching sports, particularly baseball and football.
Together, Don and Jean loved taking trips to Florida and Hawaii, and bus trips to Branson.
Don is survived by his wife, Jean Carlson of Dassel; children Winton (Susan) Carlson of Garrison, Galen (Linda) Carlson of Dassel, and Dori (Craig) Nass of Garrison; six grandchildren, Melisa Jensen, Jamie Carlson, Cory Carlson, Robbie Carlson, Amber Stumpf, and Alecia Portele; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Leonore Benson of Annandale.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Ted, Reuben, Ty, Howard, Carl, and Virgil; and sisters Viola, Myrtle, and Gladys.
The funeral service took place Thursday, Jan. 26 at 11 a.m. at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Hutchinson, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Pastor Brian Brosz officiated at the service, and interment was at the Dassel Community Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel.
