| || Viola Mildred Collins, age 88, of Howard Lake, died Saturday, March 24, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Howard Lake.
She was born March 11, 1924, on the family farm in rural Howard Lake, the daughter of Albert and Minnie (Schmieg) Drawert. Viola was baptized at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake April 20, 1924, by the Rev. A.L. Oetjen, and confirmed in her faith at the same church May 3, 1936, by the Rev. C.G. Seltz.
Viola was married to Philip Collins July 1, 1950, in New Brighton. Their marriage was blessed with a daughter.
After living in St. Paul for 20 years, they moved back to Howard Lake, where they owned and operated a restaurant. Viola was also a cook at the Howard Lake Care Center.
For years, she helped assemble the church newsletter at St. James.
Viola always enjoyed spending time with her family and looked forward to family reunions.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Minnie Drawert; husband Philip Collins; daughter Deborah Dibb; two brothers, Lloyd Drawert and Kenneth Drawert; and three sisters, Amelia Cochran, Lila Diers, and Luverne Barlau.
Viola is survived by one sister, Lorraine (George) Lauzer; three grandsons, Bob (Paula) Dibb, Scott (Briana) Dibb, and Matt Dibb; eight great-grandchildren, Eleanor Dibb, Collin Dibb, Nick Hovet, Dakota Raridon, Justus Dibb, Kolton Dibb, Lexi Swenson, Matthew Dibb and Wyatt Dibb; a sister-in-law, Norma Drawert; nieces; nephews; and a host of relatives and friends.
Memorial services took place Tuesday, March 27 at 2 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake, with the Rev Martin Schoenfeld and Deacon David Taylor officiating. The soloist was Myra Hirsch, with Nancy Butterfass serving as organist.
Interment will be at the Howard Lake Cemetery Saturday, April 14 at 3 p.m.
